Licensing FAQ

Introducing the God Question DVD Series — Screening Licence
Frequently Asked Questions

1. WHY MIGHT I NEED A LICENCE?

Under UK copyright law, a non-commercial (non-paying audience) or a commercial (paying audience) event in which a film is publicly screened to an audience over a certain size will generally require a non-theatrical licence.

In some cases institutions/organisations wish the convenience of placing the films on a server which provides access to multiple locations within the institution. This use also requires a licence.

On payment of the appropriate fee, the licence gives the consent of the copyright holder for the screening(s) to take place. Without possessing the licence, the user may be infringing copyright.

The licence, for which there is a small cost, is in recognition of the fact that it is uneconomic for the copyright holders to invest in the series and sell single copies which are then screened to multiple audiences.

2. WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT FOR THIS SERIES?

The copyright holder of Introducing the God Question is Kharis Productions Ltd, the company who issues the licence.

3. IS “INTRODUCING THE GOD QUESTION” COVERED UNDER ANY OTHER EXISTING LICENCE ARRANGEMENT?

No. This series requires its own separate licence.

4. WHAT ARE THE AUDIENCE CATEGORIES AND ASSOCIATED PAYMENTS?

Audience categories and payments are as specified below.

501 – 1,000 £40.00
1,001 – 1,500 £50.00

10,000 – 20,000 £135.00

5. DOES THE LICENCE COVER ALL THREE PROGRAMMES?

Yes. The licence covers and is exclusive to the screening of all 3 titles in the series:

The Cosmos, Life and Evolution, Mind and Consciousness.

6. WHAT PERIOD DOES THE LICENCE COVER?

The licence is valid for 36 months from the date of issue. Close to the licence termination date you will be offered the opportunity to renew it.

7. AM I PERMITTED TO SHOW AN EXTRACT FROM A PROGRAMME TO A LARGE AUDIENCE WITHOUT PROCURING A LICENCE?

It depends. You may show any one of the four promotional trailers to any size of audience without requiring a licence. However, showing a programme extract of more than 15 minutes to an audience of more than 34 people will require a licence. Using several excerpts is deemed as equating to a single screening.

During a single session, the minutage is the aggregate of all the clips used. If they exceed 15 minutes, a licence is necessary for audiences in excess of 34.

8. IF I REQUIRE A LICENCE, HOW DO I PURCHASE IT?

You will have the option to purchase a licence during the Checkout process.

9. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM IN CLEARLY EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES?
